When Katy moves with her mom in the middle of West-Virginia she doesn’t expect to find 2 neighbours of her age. On one hand she meets Dee Black who is very friendly and nice with her. On the other hand she meets Daemon Black who is  really attractive to her but who act like an idiot. In addition everyone around her seems to avoid the Black family. Yet Katy is attracted by them, what will she do ? What will happen ?

Criticism

    To start with, the story is just insane but in a good way. Indeed, we are always surprised by the characters and the story. When we think we know what is going to happen, our idea is wrong and the story is higher than our expectations, and this is true for the five volumes. Likewise, the fantasy part is really well exploited, it’s perfectly integrated to the “human society” in the story. All is explained and described at the right time, we don’t get caught up among the details. There aren’t inconsistency or things we wonder because it’s not said.

    For the characters, I am also a fervent. Most of the time, we have Katy’s point of view (this is a good thing because she’s a good person because she writes a literary blog, ahah, and if you want to know all, it’s her who gave me the idea to publish criticisms about books.), thanks to that we can identify ourselves to her and we really feel her emotions. Concerning Daemon, he is for me like Katy because they have both a strong personality (not the same one), they are fair, they perfectly know when they have to be harsh or sweet, they are human (they have qualities and flaws) ... A point that I really appreciate is that the secondary characters are important for the story, they aren’t put aside of the story. Each character has its importance even if we don’t expect it at the beginning.

    Concerning Jennifer L Armentrout’s way with word I’m a little bit disconcerted because she really succeed in passing on characters’ emotions (there isn’t just one emotion, all the emotions are moving, as well the happy ones as the sad ones). That’s what makes the book sensational and always gripping, emotions are really diverse and well described. But during my reading in French, I was a little bit perturbed by the sentences, sometimes I had to read another time the sentence to understand it. But in general the story was really well told.

Final conclusion

An entertaining and poignant book of fantasy that leads us to think about ourselves and what we should do if we were in their place, how would we act ?

During the reading of the firsts pages of Lux 1, some aspects of the story made me think about Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. So if you are crazy about Twilight, you will love the firsts chapter. Then the story is totally different so I let you discover Katy and Daemon’s adventures !!!

It’s a saga of 5 books and there is another collection, called “Origin” and it takes place in the same world of Lux saga.

The song 

Rhythm inside, Loic Nottet, it was really difficult to find a song that covers the entire saga and all the themes. The message of this song can be “read” into two different ways, the “urban fantasy” way and Katy and Daemon’s way of watch the world.
