Summary

These two people don’t get on well but to survive they have to make some concessions. Both of them have an important mission, will they succeed in among this dance of thieves and this dance of liars ?

Criticism

    What can I say (It’s a little bit embarrassing to have nothing to say for a criticism, ahah), except that it was a really really really good fantasy. We are transported into a world which is new to us. Landscapes are different but seem to be so nice for the major part, people live in a different way from us, there are some fancied animals, we discover traditions that could be real, there is a lot of horses ( this is an awesome point !!!!!!!!)… To sum up, the epic part is very well written because it allows us to entertain but also to travel into a new imaginary country. In regard to the basis of this story, to me, it’s always surprising especially the second volume. There are a few clues that allows us to guess some things but at each time a big thing is beyond our attempts, sometimes in a good way for the characters but sometimes not. That is what makes the suspense in this book !

    Concerning the characters, enemies to lovers’ fans will be won over. There isn’t only one love story of this kind, but several enemies to lovers’ romance. They are really well written because we can be happy, annoyed (sometimes at the same time), sad, torn, excited, etc, by the characters, their decisions and their relationships. Kazi is a difficult character, she has a lot of fears but she is very strong and brave. We really want to know why she is like that and why she acts in this way. Besides she is so intelligent, it’s not rare to be surprised by her way of seeing the world, of acting and of using cunning. Even if she seems to have a heart of stone, she is a sensitive character with an enormous generosity. That are some reasons why we love her because there are many more reasons, but here are the mains. Jase has more or less the same personality, but for him there is an important thing that makes him lovely : his family. The look he has on his family is just beautiful to read, we can see all the love they bring each other. Both (Jase and Kazi) are clever and courageous, but each one has a lot of pride when they are together, and this gives excitement to the story ! Other characters are also very important for the story, each one has a special role in the story. Each personality of the character is interesting, we want to better know who they really are.

    Regarding Mary E Pearson’s way with words, it was a real pleasure to read her book. It was so much well written that while I was reading the firsts pages, I searched some words on the dictionary but I didn’t find it because it was imaginary animals’ name but I thought it was complex words that I didn’t know. After this discovery all was clear for me. Furthermore, Kazi’s riddles are very poetic, it adds a mystic trait to the story and the character.

Final conclusion

A fantasy series’ book which is human !

    Dance of thieves and Vow of Thieves take part in The Remnant Chronicles, it happens after “The Kiss of Deception” trilogy. However, if you read Dance of Thieves first, you will understand the story despite all (this is what I did).

You lie, JVCK J. I think a big part of this song represents the “liar” part of the book but also the enemies to lovers part, even if there are some lyrics that remind us the setting of our world.
